Calvin James

Known in circles as Irelands answer to DJ Craze and Mr. Fingers rolled into one, Calvin James has been a DJ with a cause on the Irish Underground House Scene for some time. Initially picking up the house bug living in New York, Calvin learned the trade fast playing in various bars and clubs all over downtown playing along side New York legends such as Frankie Bones and Kerri Chandler. Upon returning to Dublin Calvin established himself at the decks playing support to a host of International DJ’s and producers including Norman Jay, Dj Deep and Claude Young. He was resident at Spirit in its early days and then went next door and hosted the infamous Boogaloo night at Traffic which turned Monday nights into the 3rd night of Dublin’s weekend.

Combining Hip Hop, Latin, Electro, Funk, Techno and House Calvin has masterminded a plan that has taken him to another level behind the booth with a 4 decks, 3 mixers, no headphones or shame mix of all the above influences that leaves crowds wondering how the f@€k, does he do it!

Playing sets all over the country this year, Calvin James has left crowds in awe from Bodytonic in Dublin, to Dolans in Limerick, to Musiklab in Waterford and HALO in Cork all topped off with his biggest stage at the Electric Picnic to over 1000 people in the Bodytonic Arena. To boot, Calvin was placed in both the DMC and ITF competitions this year with marksman skills that beefed up his credentials as one of Irelands top scratch DJ’s.

Apart from a busier schedule in 2005 with dates secured for the UK, Calvin will be looking to stretch the imagination further with his house turntablism sets but plans for studio time on a production end are his next goal as the digital era beckons.
